Step Up Your Floor Game
The floors in your home are not only a functional part of your living space, but they are also a way to express your style and personality. So it would only make sense to find the best flooring to suit you, your lifestyle, and your budget! The floor you choose can also be a great way to tie in the overall aesthetic of your whole house. There are so many options to choose from too, like hardwood, tile, or laminate.
Hardwood is a well-known choice amongst households due to the fact that it is extremely strong and durable and also adds value to your home if you were considering selling eventually. That being said, there are downsides to hardwood. It is more on the expensive side. And it also doesn’t take well to moisture, so it isn’t recommended in rooms like bathrooms, laundry rooms or basements. Hardwood can also be susceptible to scratches and dents in high traffic areas…so be cautious when moving furniture around!
Next, is engineered wood, a common choice due to its affordable price and great look. Engineered wood flooring gives the appeal of real wood without emptying your wallet. It’s just as durable as hardwood and with proper care, it can last just as long. It is also a popular choice due to the easy installation of this wood. Unlike hardwood, engineered wood has a better resistance to moisture. However, it is worth noting that engineered wood emits VOC’s- Volatile Organic Compounds, which can be harmful to humans. There also isn’t such a large variety like there is with hardwood.
Moving on, we have Laminate. This is an affordable option that consists of a particle wood base topped by wood or tile. It is scratch resistant but not chip resistant. But the plus side to this flooring is the array of styles and colors that it comes in, and like the engineered flooring, it can be a great DIY project (for slightly more experienced homeowners). But, just like hardwood, it’s susceptible to moisture.
The last one we’ll discuss is tile. Tile is most popular in rooms like the bathroom and kitchen due to their water-resistant qualities. It is also very durable and comes in a variety of color options and styles so there is a great flexibility in design. However, tile can be difficult to install and requires a lot of prep work before installation, therefore you’re looking at putting out a pretty penny when it comes to this step.
When you are trying to choose a floor, pros and cons are always a great way to narrow down your choices.
