5 Ways to Boost Curb Appeal

First impressions are everything. We know this through the job interviews we partake in and meeting new people for the first time. But even our homes make first impressions through what we call, “Curb Appeal”. What is “Curb Appeal” and why is it important? Well, curb appeal can be anything that makes your house stand out (positively) amongst the rest. A bright pop of color contrasting against the rest of the home, leaving your brick exterior unpainted or even the plants you choose to put out front can be curb appeal. The interior may have the most beautiful décor known to man. But if the exterior is lacking, it can give off an unwelcoming energy, which means less guests and less potential buyers. This can also be done without breaking your bank! A little TLC can go a long way, so here are a few tips to improve your home’s curb appeal and make sure you’re right on point with every first impression!

A Bold Front Door: This will add some personality to your home. It is relatively inexpensive and can drastically make a difference. Picture this: A gray house, with white trim and white door. Sure, it’s timeless and beautiful. But it could be easily forgettable. Now think about a gray house, white trim with a teal door or if you want more subtle yet still bold- a black door. That WILL leave a lasting impression on someone. Color has meaning behind it too. For example, a red door commands attention whereas a black door exemplifies strength and luxury.

Get Into the Holiday Spirit: If you celebrate holidays, they can be a great way to express your creative side and impress your neighborhood! You can get into the spirit through some D.I.Y. arts and crafts, or you can go to a local store! Lights are always a fun and easy way to express and celebrate, whether it’s Halloween or Christmas- you can find string lights or yard lights in any color. And wreathes aren’t just for Christmas anymore, you can create your own wreath for any holiday. These give off a very friendly welcoming feeling and are a cost-effective way to get into the spirit. Easter wreathes here we come!

Plants! Plants! Plants! When we have greenery or colorful flowers, they create an inviting and cheerful atmosphere. Maintaining and manicuring your lawn and plants can help create a positive lasting impression. Most of us don’t have the time or energy to be constantly maintaining our plants. But there are some great low maintenance choices out there like Gerbera Daisies, Hosta, Daylilies and even Aloe Vera for those who want the atmosphere without it being too time-consuming! Even wildflowers are a great option.

Porch Appeal: If your home has a sizeable front porch, make it cozy and welcoming! Add a swing or chairs that invite your guests to sit and conversate. A warm friendly neighbor always gives off a great impression! If you want to keep the porch malleable and have the option to remove the furniture, get an outdoor storage container and moveable furniture that allows you to make changes as you please!

These are just some simple ways to improve your curb appeal and have everyone in the neighborhood loving your home as much as you! Remember, a little effort can go a long way when you’re making a first impression!
